Over the last several years, the School of Government has developed new and exciting resources to support local multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) involved with protecting adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. An MDT is a group of professionals in a geographic region who commit to working together toward a common goal. An adult protection MDT may include, for example, social workers, law enforcement officials, prosecutors, legal services attorneys, guardians or guardians ad litem, representatives from community nonprofits, financial institutions, and area agencies on aging.

We are excited to begin a new phase of the work in collaboration with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Aging and Adult Services. In this new phase, we will be focused on expanding training and technical assistance for adult protection MDTs across the state. We are searching for a dynamic project director to be involved with this effort. Can you help us spread the word?

Do you know someone who would be interested in finding a flexible, mission-driven public service position? The project director’s role involves:

  • working closely with SOG faculty and staff to create and design an online training curriculum for the NC adult protection MDTs, and
  • serving as the central point of contact for an MDT “help desk”, which will be a resource for county teams.

This position is perfect for someone seeking meaningful work that offers both flexibility and variety in job tasks.  It is a part-time position (30 hours per week) and time-limited (18 months). Much of the work can be done remotely, while some work will be done at the SOG or around the state.

The project director will not be starting from scratch. The SOG’s resource website (http://protectadults.sog.unc.edu) includes a free book, quick reference guides, and other tools. We have offered trainings for MDTs (see this blog post, for example) and collaborated with partners to leverage national resources. The goal is to tailor training and support for our North Carolina MDTs so they are in the best possible position to protect adults in their local communities.

The full job posting is available here. Please pass this along to anyone who might be interested. And stay tuned for updates as we move forward with this exciting work!
